SKIL Ports to develop Rs. 1,000-crore terminal at Karanja.

SKIL Ports and Logistics plans to invest Rs. 1,000 crore to build a multipurpose terminal at Karanja near here over the next two years.

The proposed terminal would be developed on a 200-acre land parcel at Karanja, off the financial capital's eastern coast, and would have a sea frontage of 1,000 metres.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis laid the foundation stone for the port recently. According to an official release, it would be built at an investment of Rs. 1,000 crore.

Located in neighbouring Raigad district, the proposed multipurpose terminal and port would be operational in two years, the release said.

It would be close to the country's largest container port Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and also across the channel from the Mumbai Port.

Further details like total capacity and cargo mix at the facility were not available immediately.
