Six new SEZs coming up in the country

Six new SEZs coming up in the country April 14,2010: The Board of Approvals (BoA) for SEZs approved setting up of six new SEZs. Of the six SEZs, three are in Andhra Pradesh, includes, Indus Gene's biotech SEZ at Kodur and Settipalli village, Shantha Biotechnics' biotech SEZ at Muppireddipally village and Suchirindia Infrastructure's biotech SEZ at Turkapally. Other three SEZs are, Cochin International Airport's airport based SEZ at Angamali village in Kerala, Sterlite Industries' copper SEZ at TV Puram, Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu and Lanco Solar's SEZ come up in Chhattisgarh.

The BoA permitted three developers to surrender their SEZs. These developers included Unitech Infopark, Wardha Power Company and Estra IT Park. However, these developers will have to pay back the tax concessions availed while executing the projects and other pending dues.

Besides, additional time has been approved for 29 developers to execute their SEZ projects. It also, approved seven proposals for grant of co-developer status. These include the proposal of Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation for a multi product SEZ in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, where Greentech Industries (India) will be the Co-Developer. The BoA has deferred their decision on L&T's request to set up IT/ITES SEZ over 10 ha in Mysore, Karnataka as it required some more clarifications on the project.
