RVNL Gets Railway Board Directive to Expedite Kazipet Production Facility.

Railway Board Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Satish Kumar has directed Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) to ensure the timely completion and operationalisation of the Kazipet Railway Manufacturing Unit in Telangana.

Kumar inspected the ₹597.68-crore flagship project recently and reviewed the progress of the facility, which is being developed across nearly 160 acres.

During the inspection, the Railway Board chief directed officials to complete the remaining works and make the manufacturing unit operational as per the planned schedule, RVNL said in a statement.

Although RVNL did not specify the exact commissioning timeline, officials indicated that the facility is expected to become operational by the end of 2026.

During the visit, Kumar inspected key facilities including the Main Manufacturing Shed, Coach Shop, Paint Shop and Final Testing Shop. He also reviewed the operational preparedness of the units and held discussions with senior railway officials regarding the completion of pending works.

Once commissioned, the Kazipet Railway Manufacturing Unit is expected to significantly enhance Indian Railways’ rolling stock manufacturing capacity.

Located at Kazipet, a major railway junction under South Central Railway on the Balharshah–Secunderabad trunk route, the facility will have strategic connectivity to the national rail network. Officials said the location will facilitate efficient transportation of raw materials and finished rolling stock.

“The Kazipet Railway Manufacturing Unit is a strategically important project that will significantly strengthen India’s railway manufacturing ecosystem and support the growing requirements of Indian Railways,” Satish Kumar said.

He added that the progress achieved by RVNL in developing the facility was encouraging and that the unit would enhance the country’s rolling stock manufacturing capabilities, support production and maintenance of modern trains, generate employment and contribute to regional industrial growth.

“I have advised the project team to complete the remaining works as per schedule so that this important facility can be operationalised at the earliest,” Kumar said.

According to RVNL, the Kazipet facility has been designed as a multi-purpose manufacturing hub for next-generation Mainline Electric Multiple Units (MEMUs), passenger coaches, trainsets and other modern rolling stock.

The unit will also undertake maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) activities for advanced rolling stock, strengthening lifecycle support for Indian Railways.

In May 2026, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had also reviewed the progress of the project and said the manufacturing unit was nearing completion.
