Roads at MCH to get a facelift.

The roads in the Government Medical College Hospital compound here will get a facelift in seven months under a special modification plan finalised by the Public Works Department (PWD).

Nearly 5 km of the road will be converted into rubberised roads under the project. Some old buildings on the campus will also be renovated.

The main road from the Jubilee Gate will be renovated and beautified with footpaths, drains and gardens. The Public Works Department (PWD) will take up the work at a cost of Rs.7 crore.

An engineer of the department said that survey work related to the road improvement project was almost complete and the development work would commence within one month.

PWD officials said that the total length of roads inside the campus was around 14 km and work would not be taken on the entire stretch in the initial phase. 'There will be no shortage of funds for the work as the department will be utilising a portion of its latest budget allocation,' they said.

Most of the roads on the campus are in a dilapidated state.

People's representatives had taken up the issue.
