Right of way, green nod hamper Karnataka power transmission.

The speed of execution of power transmission network is likely to be thwarted by issues like acquisition of 'right of way', environmental clearances and compensation for crop loss, said DK Shivakumar, Karnataka Energy Minister.

Addressing the Power Ministers' conference, Shivakumar said, 'While acquiring the right of way, the reliance is on an archaic Indian Telegraph Act 1885, read with Electricity Act. This is hurting us in execution of transmission network in the State.'

Also, the present practice of compensating for crop loss during laying of transmission lines needs a relook. 'The diminution of land value is at best ignored,' he said in his speech, a copy of which was released to the media.
