.Realignment of Pune-Nashik Railway Corridor Nears Completion.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that the realignment of the Pune-Nashik railway corridor project is nearing completion, with the project poised to commence upon receiving final approval from the Maharashtra State Government.
The crucial realignment was necessitated due to the original route's proximity to the Giant Metrewave Radio
Telescope (GMRT) at Khodad village, near Narayangaon, approximately 60 kilometers from Pune. The initial plan positioned the high-speed rail corridor within a 15-kilometer restricted zone surrounding the GMRT.
This proximity raised significant concerns among scientists, who warned that train movements within the restricted zone could potentially disrupt the sensitive operations of the radio observatory. The realignment plan addresses these concerns, paving the way for the project's progression once the Maharashtra government grants its approval.
