Ramkrishna-Titagarh Rail Wheels Targets March 2026 for Gummudipoondi Plant Commissioning.
The much-anticipated forged wheel set plant, a joint venture between Ramkrishna Forgings and Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL), located at Gummudipoondi near Chennai, is on track for full commissioning by March 2026. This announcement was made by Prithish Chowdhary, Deputy Managing Director, TRSL, during a media interaction at the company's Uttarpara plant near Kolkata.
Once operational, the plant will boast an impressive annual production capacity of 2.28 lakh wheels. A significant portion of this output, 80,000 wheels annually, is specifically earmarked for Indian Railways over the next two decades. These wheel sets will cater to a wide range of trains, including metros, wagons, and the high-speed Vande Bharat express trains.
Chowdhary also shed light on the Indian Railways' recent orders for 250 Vande Bharat sleeper trains placed with the private sector. Of these, 120 trains have been awarded to Kinet Railway Solutions, a joint venture between Russian rolling stock giant TMH and Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. The remaining 80 trains will be supplied by a consortium comprising BHEL and TRSL.
The Gummudipoondi plant's commissioning is a crucial step in boosting India's domestic manufacturing capabilities for critical railway components, aligning with the "Make in India" initiative and supporting the modernization of the country's extensive rail network.
