Railways to turn 1,500 Stations as disabled friendly

New Delhi: Indian Railways will launch special facilities for the physically challenged people at over 1,500 stations in the country.

The special facilities that includes access ramps, reserved parking slots, low height water taps and suitable toilets will be developed in phases at important railway stations.

Besides, non-slippery walk way for the handicapped and special signage for the blind will also be put up at the stations. It has also decided to have 'May I help you booths' for guiding and assisting them.

Railways has choosen 1,560 stations for the disbale friendly project and work to equip the special facilities in this stations will be completed by end of 2010.
