Railway Redevelopment Project at Trichy Reviewed by DRM.

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Balak Ram Negi of the Trichy railway division recently inspected several ongoing railway infrastructure projects across the Cauvery delta districts.

During the review, the DRM said the redevelopment work at Kumbakonam railway station in Thanjavur district, being executed under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) at an estimated cost of ₹99 crore, is expected to be completed before the Mahamaham festival in 2028. Officials said foundation work has already commenced at both the Kumbakonam railway station and its yard.

The DRM also inspected the final stages of redevelopment works at Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur and Karaikal railway stations under the ABSS programme. According to officials, nearly 95% of the work at Mayiladuthurai station has been completed, while around 90% of work has been finished at both Karaikal and Thanjavur stations.

Negi further reviewed the redevelopment progress at Thirunallar railway station, an important transit point for pilgrims visiting the Lord Shani temple located in the Karaikal enclave of the Union Territory of Puducherry.

In addition, the DRM examined the proposed plan for a new coaching depot at Velankanni railway station in Nagapattinam district. The project has been sanctioned by the Railway Board to cater to the increasing demand for additional train services in the delta region.

Officials said the ongoing upgrades are aimed at improving passenger amenities, enhancing station infrastructure and strengthening rail connectivity across the Cauvery delta districts.
