Railway Board Greenlights Perambur-Ambattur 5th and 6th Line Project.

The Railway Board has officially sanctioned the construction of the 5th and 6th railway lines between Perambur and Ambattur in the Chennai Division of Southern Railway. This significant project, estimated at a cost of ₹182 crore, aims to alleviate severe congestion currently experienced at Chennai Central.

The new 6.4 km stretch of track is a strategic move to support a planned coaching terminal at Perambur. According to Southern Railway, the completion of this terminal is expected to facilitate the relocation of a substantial 75% of existing train rakes, thereby significantly easing the burden on Chennai Central.
