"BBS Startup Secures ₹200 Crore Contract for Anti-Drone Systems"
Big Bang Boom Solutions Pvt Ltd (BBBS), headquartered in Chennai, has clinched one of the most substantial contracts in startup history by securing a deal to supply anti-drone systems to both the Indian Air Force and the Indian Army, valued at over ₹200 crore.
BBBS's flagship product, the Vajra Sentinel System, represents a cutting-edge solution designed to detect, track, and neutralize drones over remarkable distances. Dr. R Shivaraman, Director and CTO of BBBS, described the technology as an Artificial Intelligence (AI) fingerprinting-based RF detection and jamming system, functioning by intercepting communication between the drone and its remote control.
The Vajra Sentinel System offers both soft kill via jamming and hard kill through interceptor drones. Dr. Sivaraman noted its operational range of up to 10 km, with hard kill capabilities activating at distances of 5 to 6 km, adding that the anti-drone technology holds the potential to neutralize swarm UAVs.
At the system's core lies advanced sensor technology empowered by AI and computer vision algorithms, enabling precise identification, classification, and location tracking of drones. BBBS emphasized its system's capability for autonomous decision-making regarding countermeasures such as signal jamming.
The company highlighted the use of passive RF sensor technology to eliminate false alarms, coupled with a sensor and jammer combination meeting stringent military standard specifications for durability and reliability. Furthermore, it boasts several technological enhancements such as AESA radar and kamikaze drones, which can be upgraded based on user demand.
This contract, bestowed upon Dr. Shivaraman in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, marks one of the largest initiatives under the Indian Defence Exhibition (iDEX) program by the Ministry of Defence. BBBS has pledged immediate execution to meet delivery timelines, offering comprehensive training and support to the IAF and Indian Army to ensure seamless integration of this crucial technology into their defense strategies.
