PWD seeks funds for projects.
The Delhi Government's Public Works Departments has identified implementation issues and offered solutions to the Centre in response to a report prepared by a high-power inter-ministerial committee set up by the Union Urban Development Ministry.
The inputs from the PWD were submitted a week before the Capital overwhelmingly voted for the Aam Aadmi Party to govern the city for the next five years. The report on steps to decongest Delhi has proposed elevated roads, tunnels and bypass projects worth Rs. 30,000 crore to be implemented within four years.
However, the PWD has found implementation issues such as want of additional finance by the government and systemic improvements required for faster implementation of projects.
Stating that the total investment on the proposed elevated corridors and tunnel projects would be around Rs. 22,260 crore, which would require Rs. 5,000 crore to be invested each year over the next four years, the PWD has identified that it will require an additional budget of Rs. 3,500 crore per year.
