PWD plans 23 new roads, flyovers.
With BJP riding to power on the development plank, civic agencies are hoping that several projects that have been languishing for the past few years will get fast-tracked. PWD has prepared a list of more than 23 new road and flyover projects with an estimated budget requirement of over Rs. 16,000 crore till 2020 which will be discussed in a meeting between the home minister and the PWD secretary in the coming days.
'We have projected a demand for Rs. 16,165 crore from this year to 2020 for the new projects, including those for which clearances have been received but tenders have not been floated yet. This includes the parallel flyover at Rao Tula Ram Marg. Many other projects have been planned for decongestion of arterial roads and improvement of corridors. A projection of Rs. 2,000 crore has also been made for the ongoing projects, spread over the next three years. The next financial year will see most of the money being spent on these at Rs. 1,000 crore,' a source said.
