Ports of Deendayal, Jawaharlal Nehru Consider Maglev & Hyperloop for Faster Cargo Transport.
India’s major ports are set to revolutionize cargo transport by adopting futuristic, high-speed technologies to cut transit times and reduce carbon emissions.
The Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) in Kandla, Gujarat, is planning to build an 18-km magnetic rail system to speed up freight movement within the port. In partnership with global logistics giant DP World and Poland-based Nevomo, the DPA will invest approximately ₹85 crore in a pilot project to demonstrate the technology's effectiveness.
Meanwhile, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) in Maharashtra is exploring a hyperloop system. The port has partnered with Chennai-based startup TuTr Hyperloop Pvt. Ltd. to construct a 20-km linear induction motor-based hyperloop. This system will connect the new Vadhvan Port, currently under construction, directly to the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, significantly speeding up the journey from the port to the rest of the country.
