PM to inaugurate Meghalaya's first train on Nov 29.

Meghalaya will soon be on the railway map when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates its first train connecting Dudhnoi in Assam with Mendipatha in the State on November 29.

The Prime Minister will flag off the new rail connectivity to Mendipathar in the North Garo Hills from Maligaon in Guwahati and then speak to the people of the Garo hills through video conferencing, Deputy Commissioner of North Garo Hills district D Sangma said.

Approved in 1992-93, the foundation of the 19.47-km broad guage railway line was laid by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma in 2012.

The British had unsuccessfully built the Cherra Companyganj State Railways in the Khasi and Jaintia hills region in 1895-96.
