PM Modi Inaugurates New Pamban Rail Bridge in Tamil Nadu.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the newly constructed Pamban sea bridge in Tamil Nadu, enhancing rail connectivity between Rameswaram island and the mainland. As part of the ceremony, he also flagged off the new Rameswaram–Tambaram (Chennai) train service.

In a symbolic moment, a Coast Guard ship passed under the bridge as the Prime Minister flagged it off, highlighting the bridge’s advanced vertical-lift design.

Constructed at a cost of over ₹550 crore, the new Pamban bridge is India’s first vertical sea-lift rail bridge. It is expected to significantly boost access to the popular spiritual destination of Rameswaram, which attracts devotees from across the country throughout the year.
