Petronas discovers gas in Ghotki

Islamabad: A Malaysian-based company, Petronas Pakistan, has made a second gas discovery in Mubarak Block, located at Ghotki district in Sindh. The discovery was made at the Saqib-1A well which was drilled to the planned depth of 3,780 meters.

The well was successfully tested and flowed between 13.4 million and 25.2 million standard cubic feet of gas per day and between 47.5 barrels and 63.9 barrels of condensate per day.

The Petronas Pakistan Limited is an operator of the Block and is being explored in collaboration with the ENI Pakistan Limited and the Pakistan's government Holdings (Private) Limited. Previous exploration activities resulted in the discovery of Rehmat-1 Well in 2001, which was developed and brought on stream in 2005. Subsequently, the partners decided to drill a new exploratory well, the Saqib-1A after extensive evaluation of the block and it would start production by 2009.
