ONGC Commissions Gas Evacuation Project at Khoraghat in Assam.

State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) on Tuesday announced the commissioning of gas evacuation facilities at Khoraghat GGS-1 in Assam’s Golaghat district, enabling the utilisation of nearly 1 lakh Standard Cubic Metres (SCM) of gas per day from its Jorhat asset.

The energy major said the facility will facilitate the processing and evacuation of surplus associated natural gas from the Upper Assam Shelf through the North East Gas Grid, developed by Indradhanush Gas Grid Ltd.

ONGC said the project will complement the commissioning of the Dergaon–Dimapur Pipeline, which has connected Nagaland with the North East Gas Grid and the National Gas Grid.

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri said the development would strengthen energy security while creating new opportunities for industry, transport, households and the power sector, besides advancing the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

To connect additional producing fields of the Jorhat asset to the North East Gas Grid, ONGC is also developing hook-up facilities at Jantapathar and Kasomarigaon, the company said.

According to ONGC, these projects are expected to further increase gas availability in the region, reduce gas flaring and support the growth of a gas-based economy in Assam and the wider Northeast.
