Ola Electric to Launch In-House Battery Cells Next Quarter, Eyes Cost-Driven EV Expansion.

Ola Electric to Launch In-House Battery Cells Next Quarter, Eyes Cost-Driven EV Expansion.

Ola Electric Mobility Ltd recently announced the development of an in-house Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery cell in the 46100 cylindrical format, with plans to begin deploying it in its vehicles from the next quarter. The move is part of the company’s strategy to reduce costs and accelerate electric vehicle adoption.

The announcement, made through regulatory filings to stock exchanges, signals a shift from the Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) chemistry currently used in Ola Electric vehicles to LFP technology, which is considered safer and more cost-efficient—especially in high-temperature markets like India.

Deepak Rastogi, Chief Financial Officer, confirmed that the cells are ready for commercial rollout. He noted that the company is leveraging insights from its previous battery programme, where thousands of vehicles equipped with its 4680 ‘Bharat Cells’ have collectively covered millions of kilometres on Indian roads.
