Northeast Frontier Railway signs MoU with IRCON for maintenance of electrification infrastructure.
For the first time in Indian Railways, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IRCON International Limited for the maintenance of electrification infrastructure, including Overhead Equipment (OHE) and Power Supply Installation (PSI), officials announced.
The MoU was signed on Thursday between Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of NFR, and H M Gupta, Chief Managing Director of IRCON.
IRCON, a well-established organization renowned for executing challenging infrastructure projects in difficult terrains both in India and abroad since 1976, will assist in maintaining electrification infrastructure across NFR’s Lumding and Tinsukia divisions.
Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NFR, highlighted that electrification works in the Lumding and Tinsukia divisions are progressing rapidly, with most sections already electrified and the remaining 425 RKM expected to be commissioned by June 2025. Due to the accelerated pace of electrification, there is a significant increase in the need for skilled personnel to maintain the infrastructure and address breakdowns promptly, as electric traction is vital for smooth train operations.
The MoU marks an important step for NFR, enabling the engagement of IRCON for the maintenance and breakdown attention of these sections for the next two years. This collaboration also provides an opportunity for NFR to benefit from knowledge exchange and access the latest technologies in electrification infrastructure management.
