North Bengaluru to Get New Transit Hub.
North Bengaluru is set to receive a significant transit hub as the Karnataka government has directed the
Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) to transfer 45.5 acres of land in Hebbal to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). The new multi-modal transport hub will feature a multi-level car parking facility, an advanced depot, and various other amenities.
BMRCL had previously secured 55.1 acres in Hebbal for the project, but construction had not commenced. With KIADB's land transfer, BMRCL will now proceed with the development, covering the projected ₹550 crore land acquisition cost. The transport hub will span a 32-kilometer stretch from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Mysore Road and will include three metro lines: blue, purple, and red. The project is expected to be completed in the near future.
Real estate developer Naveen Hanumantu highlighted the hub’s benefits for North Bengaluru residents. He pointed out that Hebbal, a rapidly growing area and gateway to Doddaballapur and Chikkaballapur, needs enhanced connectivity due to its rising residential, commercial, and industrial activities. The hub is anticipated to reduce the dependence on private vehicles and alleviate traffic congestion.
The integration of buses, metro services, and suburban trains at the hub will provide reliable transportation options, reduce congestion, and shorten commute times, thereby improving overall productivity and accessibility in Bengaluru.
Another real estate developer, Nanda Gopi, emphasized the economic boost the transit hub will bring to North Bengaluru. The improved infrastructure is expected to attract businesses and investors, create job opportunities, and support local commercial activities. Additionally, the hub will benefit the logistics and supply chain sectors by providing efficient transport solutions, thereby reducing costs and improving delivery times.
