Nod for viaduct over Malakpet rail station.

Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) and the Traffic Police on recently gave clearance for construction of viaduct spans on the site on both sides of the Malakpet Road over Bridge (RoB) by the concessionaire L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad (L&TMRH).

A 17-foot wide road space is to be left on both sides for the traffic to move and this is to be facilitated by taking less barricade width. Since most work will be atop the viaduct height, the engineers concerned have been asked to cover the under construction portions with steel sheets and also a net below to prevent objects from falling to the ground.

Road condition will be improved first by re-carpeting before the works begin, said HMR managing director N.V.S. Reddy during an inspection of the ongoing works along with top officials of the Police Department and the metro rail. At the Osmania Medical College station site, the Police Department immediately acceded to the request of handing over the parking space of the traffic police station nearby for taking up entry/exit levels at the Putlibowli junction (Sultan Bazaar side).

Diversion of the ‘elephant nala’ will be completed first at the Taj ice cream junction in Nampally before the remaining piers are taken up for the Nampally Metro station. For the Assembly station in front of Public Gardens, work on the remaining two piers is to be completed to facilitate two-way traffic presently curbed. At the Lakidikapul Metro station, it was decided to reduce the barricade space and give more space to traffic.

Entry/exit points of the Khairatabad station will be provided at the junction end to accommodate the sewer line for the pier foundation. Storm water drain is to be laid afresh to prevent water stagnation during the monsoon. Addl Commissioner of Traffic Jitender, L&TMRH PD M.P. Naidu, HMR chief engineer Mohd. Ziauddin and others also took part in the inspection programme.
