NMC Repairs Over 4,300 Potholes, Upgrades Roads in 3.5 Months.

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has announced the repair of 4,336 potholes and upgrades on six major roads, along with renovations of four key city squares, in efforts to enhance road safety between July 8 and October 28. However, delays in cement concretisation for several road sections are causing inconvenience for motorists, with frequent minor accidents reported due to uneven surfaces.

A senior official from NMC’s hotmix plant department explained that the renovations aim to address neglected areas, particularly at junctions that formed accident-prone "saucer shapes" due to prior oversight in cement projects. Recent upgrades include the approach road to the Manish Nagar flyover, Sitabuldi parking plaza, Nari Ghat bridge road, and roads from Nawabpura to Dhivarpura, Raj Bhavan to Old Katol Naka, and Tatya Tope Nagar.

Renovations at Laxmi Nagar Square, one side of Law College Square, and Bajaj Nagar Square addressed accident-prone zones with re-leveling efforts. Yet, delays in cement concretisation have led to recurring issues. In the meantime, the NMC’s repairs spanned ten municipal zones, with Dharampeth seeing the most fixes at 805 potholes, followed by Laxmi Nagar with 565.

Local motorists continue to express concerns over road conditions. Palloti Nagar resident Mahesh Upgade noted, "The patchwork repairs don’t last long, especially after the rains, leading to more minor accidents." Another rider, Mamta Khandekar, highlighted the need for permanent repairs, especially with increased nighttime hazards.

NMC’s hotmix plant department has assured continued efforts to address immediate repair needs, though residents call for more permanent solutions to ensure safer, more reliable roads across Nagpur.
