Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Ltd Begins Coal Production at Pachwara South Coal Block.

Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL), a joint venture between NLC India Limited and U.P. Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited with a 51:49 equity ratio, has begun coal production at the Pachwara South Coal Block in Dumka district, Jharkhand.

The coal is intended to fuel NUPPL’s 3 × 660 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Plant in Ghatampur, Uttar Pradesh. The Pachwara South block, allotted to the company by the Ministry of Coal on October 3, 2016, was previously unexplored and has since been fully assessed through extensive drilling.

The block holds extractable coal reserves of 264.84 million tonnes, with a normative mining capacity of 9 million tonnes per year and an average coal grade of G10. After starting overburden removal on December 19, 2025, the Pachwara South Open Cast Project officially commenced coal production on March 29, 2026, marking a key milestone in securing fuel for the Ghatampur power project.
