New Mechanical & Materials Test Bed Slated for Tamil Nadu Defence Corridor.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Monday inked a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of a state-of-the-art testing facility dedicated to the mechanical and material domain. This crucial new infrastructure will be set up within the Tamil Nadu Defence Industrial Corridor in Tiruchirappalli.

The facility will be developed under the Defence Testing Infrastructure Scheme (DTIS), a government initiative designed to boost indigenous defence manufacturing. The DTIS provides substantial financial backing, offering up to 75 percent government funding as grant-in-aid. The remaining 25 percent will be funded by a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV). This SPV will comprise a collaboration of Indian private entities along with both state and central governments, as officially announced by the Ministry of Defence.

This development is expected to significantly enhance India's capabilities in defence research, development, and manufacturing by providing advanced testing infrastructure for critical defence components and materials.
