New housing project for slum dwellers in Kalkaji.

After the Kathputli Colony rehabilitation project, the Delhi Development Authority is now coming up with a three-phased rehabilitation project for slum dwellers in Kalkaji and Govindpuri.

As part of this project, the authority has started the construction of its first housing colony, Kalkaji in-situ housing colony at Govindpuri Road in Kalkaji. Coming up on an area of over 30,000 sq m, this colony will provide houses to more than 3,000 families living in nearby slum clusters.

'More than 8,000 families live in Navjeevan camp, Bhoomi-heen camp and others. After 3,000 families are rehabilitated, another housing colony will come up in the area vacated by the dwellers,' said DDA spokesperson Neemo Dhar.

The Kalkaji in-situ colony will have five tower clusters housing 3,024 flats. The buildings will have fourteen floors and a lift will be fitted in each building.
