The North Eastern Railway (NER) has set up comprehensive medical facilities at Prayagraj's Rambagh and Jhusi stations to cater to the needs of pilgrims visiting the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.
Ashok Kumar, a spokesperson for the Varanasi division of NER, announced that the railway authorities have established 24/7 observation rooms equipped to provide quick medical assistance in emergencies. These rooms will be staffed with doctors and paramedics around the clock.
Following the success of the medical facilities during the previous Maha Kumbh, which provided first aid to over 100,000 pilgrims, the NER is expanding its services to meet the needs of an even larger number of visitors this year. Key medical equipment, such as ECG machines, defibrillators, oxygen cylinders, glucometers, and nebulizers, will be available to ensure prompt treatment for pilgrims.
Doctors will be on hand to administer first aid to both pilgrims and railway staff, with serious cases being transferred to the nearest hospital via ambulance. A daily shift report will be provided, and the fair medical officer will be notified of any major incidents.
Pharmacists will also be stationed in the observation rooms to manage medicine distribution and ensure the orderly tracking of medical supplies. They will assist doctors during emergencies, provide first aid in the absence of the medical officer, and maintain records of medicines and consumables.
A dedicated team consisting of 12 doctors, 18 nurses, 18 pharmacists, 48 hospital attendants, and 18 housekeeping staff will be on duty in shifts to ensure round-the-clock medical services at the stations.
In addition to the railway stations' medical facilities, coordination with local railway hospitals and health centers will ensure timely patient referrals when necessary, ensuring comprehensive medical support for pilgrims throughout the event.
