NDMC Reviews Revamp Plan for Shivaji Bus Terminal.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is currently reviewing the redevelopment plan for Shivaji Bus Terminal, a project that was initially conceived around six years ago but has yet to see finalization or implementation. The plan aims to transform the terminal into a commercial complex and bus hub, though progress has been slow.

The current proposal envisions creating commercial spaces on the upper floors, while reserving the ground floor for bus parking, an air-conditioned waiting area, ATMs, ticket booths, charging points, and space for auto parking. However, NDMC officials are revising the design to better utilize the available space.

The redevelopment of the terminal was first detailed in a project report prepared in 2018-19, but the initial tenders did not attract interest. As a result, NDMC opted to reissue the tenders with upgraded features meeting international standards.

In October 2023, a fresh tender was floated, estimating the project cost at Rs 63.8 crore. Officials indicated that construction would take at least three years from the award of the contract. Once a contractor is selected, NDMC will seek council approval to move forward with the work.

During the tenure of former NDMC chairman Naresh Kumar, the proposal was presented to the council, which decided that NDMC, rather than Delhi Metro, would oversee the terminal's revamp.

The redevelopment plan includes transforming the facility into an eco-friendly green building, utilizing sustainable materials such as fly ash bricks. The project will span 4,235.7 square meters near Shivaji Stadium and will feature two basements, a ground floor, first and second floors, along with staircases, lifts, and public toilets.
