Naveen Jindal Plans $21 Billion Investment in Nuclear Power Generation.

Jindal Nuclear Power Private Ltd, a subsidiary of Jindal Renewables and part of the Naveen Jindal Group, has announced plans to develop 18 GWe of nuclear power capacity in India over the next 20 years. The project entails an investment of ₹1.8 lakh crore ($21 billion), marking a significant private sector push into nuclear energy.

The initiative aligns with the Indian government’s target of achieving 100 GWe of nuclear power capacity by 2047, supporting low-emission industrialization and reducing the nation’s carbon footprint. Jindal Nuclear will be the first private company to build, own, and operate nuclear power plants, leveraging cutting-edge technology to ensure safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

“The Indian government’s vision for 100 GWe of nuclear energy by 2047 is both exciting and ambitious. We believe the private sector must play a key role in realizing this goal, and our 18 GW nuclear development plan reflects our commitment to a low-carbon energy future,” said SK Sharma, Senior Advisor at Jindal Nuclear and former Chairman of NPCIL.

The company plans to integrate advanced nuclear technologies, including Bharat Small Reactors (BSRs), Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), and next-generation Gen-IV reactors, as they become commercially viable. Collaboration with global technology leaders will be a key focus to ensure innovation, safety, and operational excellence.

Beyond clean energy generation, the project is expected to create thousands of jobs in construction, operations, and ancillary sectors, contributing significantly to India’s economic growth.
