MoU inked for Kalindji Kunj-Botanical Garden metro link.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation recvently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Noida Authority for construction of a 3.962-km elevated metro corridor between Kalindi Kunj and Botanical Garden. According to the Detailed Project Report, about 48,500 commuters are expected to use this section in 2017. DMRC Director (Business Development) S.D. Sharma and NOIDA Authority CEO Rama Raman signed the agreement at Metro Bhavan in the presence of DMRC Managing Director Mangu Singh and other senior officials.

The corridor, which will be part of phase III construction of the Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden corridor will have two stations — Okhla Bird Sanctuary and Botanical Garden. This link in the line will connect Noida to important areas in South Delhi such as Jamia Milia Islamia University, Kalkaji, Okhla, Nehru Place, IIT, Hauz Khas and R.K. Puram, and will connect to the international and domestic terminals of the airport and parts of West Delhi.

After the corridor is completed, the Botanical Garden metro station will emerge as the first interchange station outside the boundaries of Delhi city in the National Capital Region. This station will provide interchange between the currently operational Line 3 (Noida City Centre-Dwarka Sector 21) and the upcoming Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden corridor. Presently, 14,000 passengers use the Botanical Garden station on the blue line, which is expected to take a load of as many 97,780 commuters in 2016.

Further, the DMRC network’s fourth bridge over the Yamuna is coming up on this section along the Okhla barrage after crossing Kalindi Kunj. The approximate length of this bridge is 574 metre and it is coming up about 85 metre downstream of the existing Okhla bridge over the Yamuna. This bridge will be located between the Kalindi Kunj and Okhla Bird Sanctuary stations.
