Modi supports completion of Golden Quadrilateral project.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently said roads and infrastructure topped the priority chart for development.

He was speaking at the commissioning function of the Raichur-Solapur 765 KV transmission line developed by Powergrid Corporation. The synchronous connection of the southern grid with the rest would ensure 'one nation one grid-one frequency'.

It paves the way for exchange of power from regional grids of northern, eastern, western and northeastern regions with southern region and enables exchange of surplus power to the southern region.

He also dedicated the 210 km Pune-Solapur national highway 9 and laid the foundation stone of the Solapur-Karnataka border NH 9 being developed by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) at the function.

As the American and South Korean experience has demonstrated, nations become prosperous when they build good roads and it is not the other way round, Modi said. Narrating the South Korean experience he said 30 years ago it was a poor country and people demonstrated against big roads. But the government completed them and changed the face of the country, Modi added.

The golden quadrilateral initiated by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee would also be completed by the Union roads and highways ministry under Nitin Gadkari. He emphasized that under the then PMGSY development of roads, railways and other infrastructure would be encouraged.
