MM Forgings Eyes ₹2,000-Crore Revenue by FY27, Plans New Hot Forging Press.

Chennai-based automotive component manufacturer MM Forgings Ltd is expanding its manufacturing capabilities with a ₹230-crore investment in a new hot forging press, as it targets revenue of nearly ₹2,000 crore in FY27.

The company is installing a 16,500-tonne hot forging press, which Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Vidyashankar Krishnan said would be the largest such unit in operation globally. The new press, currently being manufactured in Russia, is expected to be commissioned by the end of the year.

“We are installing the world’s largest 16,500-tonne hot forging press to enhance our ability to manufacture heavy forged components for global commercial vehicle manufacturers,” Krishnan told businessline. He noted that the largest forging press currently in operation is a 16,000-tonne unit at Bharat Forge.

The new facility will significantly expand MM Forgings’ production capabilities, enabling it to manufacture heavier front axle beams used in large commercial vehicles as well as crankshafts weighing up to 300 kg. At present, the company’s facilities can forge components weighing up to around 120 kg.

According to Krishnan, the new press will be capable of handling axle beams weighing more than 170 kg, opening up opportunities in the global heavy-truck market and strengthening the company’s position in the commercial vehicle components segment.

The capacity expansion is expected to support MM Forgings’ growth ambitions and help drive revenue towards the ₹2,000-crore mark by FY27.
