Military authorities to restore Yodha-Wewa
Colombo: The military authorities in Mannar are planning to shortly restore the Yodha-Wewa under a crash programme to develop the newly liberated areas in the district, the military said.
Mannar Brigade Commander Ravi Perera told the Mannar Citizens Committee that the Yodha Wewa which was now in a state of disrepair when restored could irrigate 30,000 acres of paddy fields and also facilitate and promote inland fishing.
“Consider that development work has having already begun. We are permitting the use of the Mannar stadium for sports activities from today,” Colonel Perera said.
Citizens’ Committee Chairman Rev. Fr. Stanley Anthony requested the Brigade Commander to launch projects that would help create employment opportunities for youth in the agricultural and fisheries sectors.
