Metro Rail work halted over land in Hyderabad.

While Metro pillars have been constructed from Musheerabad to Chilkalguda, the viaducts aren’t up. The pillars have been standing in the area for the last six months.

Metro Rail officials say that two more pillars have to be constructed on the stretch but for that some properties have to be acquired. Till then, the viaduct works can’t be done.

The stagnated works have led to uneven roads, broken drains and no footpath, making it difficult to walk on the road.

Lakhs of motorists who travel on the road daily have a harrowing time.
The road connects to RTC crossroads, Fever Hospital, Narayanguda, Abids and Nampally.

Mr Vijay D’Souza, whose office is in Abids, said, “Metro Rail started the works of pillars and after that we were assured that the roads would be repaired. But later came utility works of water and drainage and since then it has not stopped.

There are many works on-going on the sides of the road due to which the complete stretch, till the Institute of Preventive Medicine, is very uneven.” With colleges, schools and offices on the stretch, the movement of pedestrians is affected as there is hardly any place for them to walk.

Mr Mohammed Irfan, a businessman at Chilkalguda Crossroads said, “There is no place to walk on the road. Either sides have been dug. We have been constantly complaining to the GHMC but they have said that it will be done only after completion of the Metro works.”

A senior HMR officer said, “These works from Musheerabad are part of Corridor 3 works. It’s taking time as properties have not been acquired at a few places. The acquisition process is in the final stages and within six months the works on this stretch will be completed.”
