MEIL Executes Largest Concrete Pour for Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor at Kaiga.

Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL)  said it has recently successfully completed one of the largest monolithic concrete pours in the history of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd’s (NPCIL) pressurised heavy water reactor (PHWR) programme at the Kaiga Units 5 and 6 nuclear power project in Karnataka.

The operation involved placing around 7,250 cubic metres of concrete with a reinforcement steel (rebar) density of 360 kg per cubic metre, marking a key construction milestone for the Kaiga Units 5 and 6 project as well as for MEIL’s maiden nuclear power assignment, the Hyderabad-based infrastructure company said in a statement.

According to the company, executing a continuous concrete pour of this scale in its first nuclear project demonstrates its engineering capabilities, meticulous planning and execution expertise in one of the most demanding segments of infrastructure construction.

The Kaiga Units 5 and 6 project is part of NPCIL’s ongoing expansion of its indigenous pressurised heavy water reactor programme aimed at strengthening the country’s nuclear power generation capacity.
