Mega Dairy Likely to Come Up in Medak District.

With the increase in procurement by Vijaya Dairy, the state government is planning to start a mega dairy in the state, most probably in Medak district.

Till recently, the Vijaya Diary is able to procure 1.18 lakh litres per day. But, after the state government’s incentive of Rs 4 per litre for farmers, the procurement of milk increased to 4.9 lakh litres per day.

'The capacity of the existing milk chilling plant capacity is only 4.5 lakh litres. We are getting more milk than the existing milk processing capacity and require another mega dairy plant,' agriculture minister P Srinivas Reddy said recently.

He said the state government requested the Centre to sanction Rs. 240 crore for starting another mega dairy in the state. The animal husbandry department is expecting that the milk procurement by Vijaya Dairy will further increase from the present 4.9 lakh litres to 7 to 8 lakh litres per day.

This increase in milk production is expected due to the measures taken up by the government to provide buffaloes to rural folk.
