MediaTek COO: India a Leader in Semiconductor R&D, Manufacturing Hub Still Distant.

India remains "some years away" from becoming a significant semiconductor manufacturing hub, primarily due to a current shortage of a skilled workforce, according to David Ku, Co-Chief Operations Officer and Chief Financial Officer at MediaTek.

Speaking to reporters recently, Ku underscored the intricate nature and considerable time commitment involved in establishing such manufacturing facilities. He pointed out that even in the United States, which boasts a well-established industry workforce, it typically takes four years from groundbreaking to mass production for a semiconductor plant.

"For India, where the workforce in the semiconductor manufacturing industry is still relatively new, it might take longer," Ku explained, highlighting the significant hurdles India faces in developing a sufficiently experienced talent pool to support large-scale chip production.
