Massive road development in Anuradhapura district

Anuradhapura: A massive road development programme has been launched in Anuradhapura district for providing a better transport services for the peasantry.

The road development plan has been under implementation being guided by former Provincial Minister of Cooperatives, Provincial Roads and Electricity H. B. Semasinghe.

In the last week the renovation and rehabilitation work of seven leading rural roadways such as, Ikirigollewa-Ratmalgahawewa, Pihimbiyagollewa-Ambagahawewa-Kebithigollewa, Kiriketuwewa-Bandaraulpotha-Kapugollewa, Galkulama-Yakalla, Olukaranda-Ganewalpola, Rotawewa-Kurukkuragama and Welioya-Tammenawa-Kahapathwilagama were started by former Provincial Minister of Provincial Roads, and the officials of the Provincial Road Development Authority. Chairman, PRADA Yasapala Semasinghe told Daily News that for the projects the cost estimated to exceed Rs. 6.13 million.

During the period between 2004-2008 in Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa districts 233 and 97 roads respectively have been renovated and rehabilitated.

The length of the newly constructed renovated and rehabilitated rural roads is 7287 kilometres. Costing Rs. 855,183,838 the renovation of these roads.
