Tourism Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya said that 15 MoUs were signed with investors keen on setting up tourism projects in the State till about 4.30 p.m. on Friday and some more were expected later in the evening.

Interacting with the media at the end of the day-long regional tourism investors and stakeholders’ meeting organised by the AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry in association with the Tourism Department here, Ms. Akhila Priya said the 15 agreements pertained to the establishment of hotels and convention centres in Visakhapatnam.

The delegates pointed out at the lack of publicity by the Tourism Department on the places of interest in the State, and their complaints would be addressed. There was vast potential for development of water sports in Visakhapatnam and investors would be encouraged.

The Minister said that measures would be taken to ensure grounding of the projects post the signing of the MoUs. The land allotted for various projects earlier, but not taken up by the investors would be resumed and re-allotted to the new investors.

Eco tourism

She said four hotels would be constructed at Araku, resorts would be built at Lammasingi and Dallapalli in the Agency area of the district.

Replying to queries, she said the Chief Minister was keen on development of eco tourism and health tourism in a big way at Araku. She attributed the delay in implementation of projects in the tribal areas to the limitations of non-tribal investors to set up projects there.

To another query, Ms. Akhila Priya said that temple and tribal circuits were planned in Rayalaseema.

Managing Director of AP Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) Himanshu Shukla said that ₹10 crore worth capital works were sanctioned for development of amenities at Mangamaripeta, Rushikonda, and Yarada in Visakhapatnam.

Ms. Akhila Priya expressed optimism that the INS Viraat project would come to Visakhapatnam soon.

“The State government is keen on the project and we are talking to the Centre,” she said.

The APTDC MD said the DPR for the INS Viraat project was under preparation.
