Maharashtra Seeks Massive Investment Push of ₹30 Lakh Crore, Says CM Fadnavis.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently unveiled an infrastructure-led growth roadmap aimed at positioning the state as a global investment destination, setting an ambitious target of ₹30 lakh crore in investments.

Speaking at the inaugural edition of the Economic Times Maharashtra Business Summit & Awards 2026, Fadnavis highlighted the state’s focus on connectivity-driven development. “We are building roads which are not just roads, but they are economic corridors,” he said, underlining how infrastructure projects are being designed to stimulate broader economic activity. He also emphasised port-led growth, calling the upcoming Vadhvan Port a transformational project. “The next powerhouse is Vadhvan Port, which will reshape Maharashtra’s logistics and India’s trade capacity,” he added.

The summit brought together senior government officials and industry leaders to discuss themes including urban mobility, renewable energy, digital governance and industrial policy.

Urban Development Minister Madhuri Meera Satish Misal stressed the importance of inclusive growth. “Development is not only about building assets, but about supporting jobs, enterprise and competitiveness,” she said, adding that sustainable outcomes must translate into improved living standards.

IT and Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar highlighted the state’s push towards emerging technologies, announcing that Maharashtra will soon roll out an AI policy. “We are soon going to launch AI policy… and we aim to develop Mumbai as an AI hub in the next couple of years,” he said. He also noted that nearly 1,000 citizen services are being moved online as part of the state’s digital governance push.

International perspectives were shared by Spain’s Ambassador to India, H.E. Juan Antonio March Pujol, who cautioned against unplanned urban expansion. “It’s not possible to continue to grow in what is called… ‘organic growth’,” he said, stressing the need for structured city planning to improve mobility and quality of life.

On the policy front, Principal Secretary (Industries) P Anbalagan called for regulatory reforms to accelerate investment. “If we really want to grow… then we need to remove the pain points,” he said, adding that governance should rely more on trust than excessive regulation.

Sectoral discussions at the summit covered transport, energy and pharmaceuticals. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) Commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee said, “The metro alone will not solve public transport,” pointing to the need for integrated mobility systems.

Energy officials also underlined the importance of clean power in supporting growth. Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) Abha Shukla said, “Energy demand growth rate is always commensurate with the economic growth rate… We have to source 50 per cent of energy from renewable sources by 2030.”

In the pharmaceutical sector, industry leaders flagged challenges in long-term capital and innovation. GSK Pharmaceuticals India Managing Director Bhushan Akshikar noted that “most of the new investments are today moving on to other states,” while Pharmexcil Vice Chairman Bhavin Mehta said, “Innovation needs capital… not for the next quarter, but for decades.”

The summit’s opening day reinforced Maharashtra’s broader strategy of combining infrastructure expansion, policy reforms and technology adoption to drive its next phase of industrial and urban growth.
