Maharashtra CM clears proposal for detailed study of Palghar offshore airport.

The proposed offshore airport near Kore Beach in Palghar district has been found feasible in a pre-feasibility report, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Sunday during a visit to infrastructure projects in the region.

Fadnavis said a detailed presentation on the project was made to him, following which he directed authorities to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR). The airport is proposed as part of the larger Vadhvan port development and is being overseen by the Maharashtra Airport Development Corporation.

According to the chief minister, the proposed site is located around 4.75 km from the Uttan-Virar Sea Link alignment. He said that extending the sea link up to the airport could provide direct connectivity to Mumbai, as well as to the city’s existing and upcoming airports in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. He also noted that the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train station is planned in close proximity to the site, further enhancing regional connectivity.

Fadnavis added that the airport would significantly improve access to urban areas of Palghar and play a key role in addressing future aviation demand. The proposed facility is expected to feature two runways and help bridge the projected capacity gap at Mumbai’s airports by 2050.
