Maha Gives Nod for Chanaka, Tummadi Hatti Barrages.
While giving its consent for the construction of Tummadi Hatti on Pranahita and Chanaka barrage on Penganga recently, Maharashtra government has decided to make one more visit to the site of Medigadda for giving the final approval.
After prolonged ministers’ level talks in Mumbai between irrigation ministers T Harish Rao of Telangana and Girish Mahajan of Maharashtra at the Secretariat in Mumbai, the Maharashtra government responded positively for the construction of Tummadi Hatti and Chanaka barrages.
On giving the nod for Medigadda barrage, Girish Mahajan said he would personally visit Medigadda site near Kaleshwaram in Karimnagar district next week. The final decision on Medigadda barrage would be taken at the inter-state meeting after Girish Mahajan’s tour to the site next week.
Both the ministers along with a battery of irrigation officials discussed the draft agreement on Chanaka barrage across Penganga. The talks were held in two spells.
Girish Mahajan agreed to the proposals made by Harish Rao on Chanaka barrage that the TS government would bear land acquisition and barrage construction costs. Telangana required 2.5 acre land in Maharashtra for the construction of Chanaka barrage.
Girish Mahajan also agreed in-principle for Tummadi Hatti barrage in Adilabad district, which is proposed with a height agreed to Maharashtra and also with an assurance that there will be no submergence of lands in Maharashtra.
However, Mahajan expressed some doubts over the construction of Medigadda barrage, which is proposed by TRS government as part of its reengineering of irrigation projects.
'I will inspect Medigadda site next week. Later, a decision can be taken on the barrage at the inter-state meeting,' Girish Mahajan told Harish Rao. Both the ministers agreed to take a final decision on Medigadda too in the next meeting.
