After wasting more than two years in planning and finalising the contractor, civic authorities are planning to change the site for setting up construction and demolition (C&D) waste utilisation plant. The officials are struggling to find a suitable place where this plant can be installed.
The earlier location was Dhandhari, but before setting up the plant authorities need to remove heaps of garbage lying there.
However, this highlights poor planning among civic officials. Earlier the carcass utilization plant in Noorpur village could not be utilised till date because of protest by villagers. Now a similar situation has surfaced for construction and demolition waste utilization plant. The deadline for this project is fixed to March 2023.
One senior official while confirming the same said, “It was due to two years of pandemic that we could not get the work started and now when the contractor was about to start work, this issue has surfaced.” He added they are looking for some alternate land but as of now nothing has worked out. Meanwhile in the absence of proper disposal of construction and demolition waste being generated from the city, heaps of this waste can be seen lying in every nook and corner especially near the outer areas. The project was planned under the smart city mission.
The monitoring committee formed by the National Green Tribunal has asked the civic officials to complete this project as soon as possible but still work is pending.
However the civic body had fixed six sites to prevent people from dumping their construction waste.
