Long-pending Koramangala flyover project cleared.
Following the public climbdown on the controversial steel flyover project, the State cabinet recently approved a long-pending elevated corridor project between Sony World junction and Kendriya Sadan junction in Koramangala.
The 2.4-km elevated corridor is expected to ease traffic flow between Domlur flyover on Inner Ring Road and Kendriya Sadan junction in Koramangala. The commute through this corridor now takes anywhere between half-an-hour to 45 minutes during peak hours.
The 4-lane bi-directional flyover will have an exit ramp on the left towards Krupanidhi College for traffic heading to Sarjapura Road and an entry ramp on the right for traffic from St. John’s heading to Domlur.
The project was first proposed to be taken up under the JNNURM scheme in 2014 at an estimated cost of ₹168 crore. However, it was scrapped when the JNNURM scheme was dropped in 2014.
The State government revived the project in its 2015-16 budget and tenders were called. The lowest bidder had quoted 14% over the estimated cost of ₹204 crore. The cabinet nod came recently.
