KUFOS told to re-examine stadium pact with KCA.
The government has asked the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) to re-examine the proposed memorandum of understanding with the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) permitting the sports body to convert its 3.5-acre ground on the Panangad campus into a cricket stadium.
The move comes shortly after the senior officials of the Fisheries Department expressed concerns over a decision by the varsity’s governing council in November to hand over the ground to KCA for 25 years.
Confirming the development, Fisheries Minister K. Babu told The Hindu that he had asked the KUFOS authorities to vet the proposal and seek the opinion of its counsel before giving the final nod. The government is not against the project. But it would be done only after due consideration and deliberations, he said.
The varsity had announced on December 8 that it would sign the MoU with KCA the same week but could not proceed as planned following the reservations expressed by the Fisheries Department.
