Krishna Drinking Water Supply - Phase II launched

Hyderabad: Works on the Krishna Drinking Water Supply Project-Phase II came to an end with the inauguration of the 116-km long pipeline at Sahebnagar reservoir. Union Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram inaugurated the scheme, which is estimated to supply 90 million gallons per day (Mgd) of water to Hyderabad.

Mr G. Ashok Kumar, Managing Director, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board said that the project was completed with Rs 1,080 crore.

In the meanwhile, The AP State Government is making progress with the Godavari drinking water project. The Rs. 4,000 crore scheme will be completed in three years.

The State was willing to fund up to Rs 1,800 crore, Mr. Kumar said adding that the Centre might come forward to provide Rs 2,200 crore.
