Kolhapur Municipal Corporation appoints consultant for drainage pipeline project.
The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has initiated the process of preparing the detailed project report for the construction of 130-km long underground drainage network on the suburban parts of the city by appointing Pune-based Unity Consultants.
The firm has been given six months to finalize the project report, which will be submitted to the central and state governments for seeking funds under various schemes.
At present, the underground drainage network of 240 km needs to be extended by another 130 km to cover the entire city. The extended network will fulfill the requirement of suburban areas such as Salokhenagar, Sane Guruji Vasahat, Rajendranagar, Kadamwadi, Phulewadi, Jawaharnagar and Vikramnagar.
If the funds are sanctioned on time, the work of laying down the underground drainage network will commence by mid next year and will be completed in a phase-wise manner.
