Kochi Water Metro to Add 3 More Boats to Its Fleet.

Kochi Water Metro Ltd (KWML) is set to receive three additional electric hybrid boats, with Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) nearing the completion of their delivery. CSL was contracted to manufacture 23 electric hybrid boats for KWML, and 17 have already been delivered, with the remaining three expected soon.

Currently, KWML operates boats across five routes, including the recently launched High Court-Fort Kochi route. The arrival of the three additional boats will increase the frequency of services on various routes, helping to reduce long queues at terminals during peak hours. For example, the interval between services on the Fort Kochi route has already been reduced to 15 minutes, and unscheduled services can now be operated during heavy rush periods.

However, the South Chittoor route has not seen strong demand, primarily due to poor last-mile connectivity and irregular service intervals. Only four services currently operate on this route.
