Kathipara junction road opens for traffic
Chennai: Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi inaugurated various projects worth Rs 122 crore in the state. The projects, which have been executed and completed, comes under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
The chief minister inaugurated the first phase of the road overbridge, built as part of the grade separator project at Kathipara junction in Chennai, connecting suburban Ashok Nagar and Koyambedu on one side and GST Road on the other.
Later, at a function held at suburban Tambaram, he inaugurated the vehicular underpass at Irumbuliyur, built at a cost of Rs 4 crore, four-laning of Chennai bypass Phase-I up to Porur implemented at a cost of Rs 70 crore, the pedestrian subway at Tirisulam providing connectivity to the airport at a cost of Rs 5 crore and the bus shelter at Chrompet built at a cost of Rs 82 lakh.
Karunanidhi also laid the foundation stone for a foot overbridge at Chromepet which will be built at a cost of Rs 2.40 crore.
An official release stated that the completion of the Irumbuliyur underpass would facilitate a right turn for oncoming traffic from Tambaram to access the Chennai bypass road, thereby providing quicker connectivity to the Golden Quadrilateral Corridor.
