Karnataka to Get AI Data Hub, Announces Minister MB Patil.
MB Patil recently announced plans to develop AI data centre clusters of varying capacities across Karnataka to boost the growth of the Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector, with the coastal district of Dakshina Kannada identified as a key location.
Chairing meetings of the ESDM and Core Manufacturing Vision Groups at Khanija Bhavan, the Minister said the initiative is aimed at ensuring long-term industrial growth in the State. He outlined a three-tier strategy for data centre development, adding that the government would create a conducive ecosystem to establish hyperscale data centres with capacities exceeding 500 MW.
In addition, data centres with capacities ranging from 20 MW to 200 MW are proposed to be set up in tier-2 and tier-3 cities to promote balanced regional development. The government is also working to attract investments for these projects, he said.
Mr. Patil further stated that the State’s coastal region is being considered for development as a 500 MW AI data hub. Officials have been directed to undertake a feasibility study for setting up a cable landing station in Mangaluru to strengthen digital infrastructure and support the proposed data centre ecosystem.
